Please note: The use of the Task Manager is a very powerful utility and can even stop Windows from operating if it is not used properly. Windows XP Guide - Starting the Task Manager (this may also work with Windows 2000/98)

One of the most common tools in any version of Windows is the Task Manager. This program can show not only programs opened by the user but also programs that the operating system has started up as well.

There are serveral ways of running the Task Manager, one is to open the run box (shortcut to this is to hold down the the Window Key and tap the letter 'R'), then type taskmgr in the open prompt and click OK. Another is to hold down Ctl+Alt and tap the DEL key and choose the Task Manager option, or right click on the task bar will give the option to choose Task Manager as well.
